Philadelphia Police Boat Teams
The Philadelphia Police Boat Team is a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded in 2000, and is committed to the promotion of physical fitness and fraternity among law enforcement, and to giving back to the community. Our Team is comprised of Philadelphia Police Officers, Special Agents of the FBI, and members of other federal, state and local law enforcement organizations. Competitive crews are fielded in Dragon Boat and Ocean Outrigger Canoe races.
Our training takes place on the historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, practicing April - October.
In the summer of 2001, the Dragon Boat World Championships were to take place on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Then Police Commissioner John Timoney was approached to field a police team. In fewer than 6 weeks a very competitive team was formed. Commissioner Timoney's experience racing with both Vesper and Undine Clubs on Philadelphia's famed Boathouse Row underscored his competitive nature and dedicated training on the river, directing the formation of the police team and beginning the tradition.
